The Halloween franchise is receiving an all-new major video game with the first official Halloween gameplay trailer and release date having been revealed. Original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle reprises his role as the iconic slasher villain for the upcoming game, and as you can see in the trailer below, it looks like an exciting throwback to John Carpenter’s original classic.
IllFonic developed the new video game which is being published by Gun Interactive. In an exciting twist, however, the new video game will include both multiplayer and single player modes. The newly-shared trailer details how the game’s multiplayer setup will play out, with players operating either as Michael Myers or a group of playable civilians. The map itself features NPC characters that dictate the different objectives for either side.
As shared via Bloody-Disgusting, IllFonic CCO Jared Gerritzen issued the following statement regarding their plans for the upcoming video game:
“Our goal is to push the horror experience to the next level with single and multiplayer modes so players can get the most out of the game,” shared Gerritzen. “Whether they become the boogeyman or fight to protect Michael Myers’ victims, Halloween promises an unforgettable battle of fear and survival.”
Halloween Gameplay Trailer
Here’s the official Halloween gameplay trailer:
As revealed in the Halloween gameplay trailer, the new Halloween game will use Unreal Engine 5 to not only create the characters including the recreation of slasher villain Michael Myers as he once appeared in 1978, but the developers painstakingly recreated the aesthetic of a 1978-era Haddonfield, Illinois. The iconic location has been a trademark setting for the franchise and to see it paired with aesthetics of the time period really emphasize how this feels like John Carpenter’s Halloween. For example, fans won’t have to worry about it feeling like The Devil’s Rejects director Rob Zombie’s rendition of Halloween. Of course, we’ll have to wait until the game is fully released to see just how well they’ve recreated these elements for players to enjoy.
Halloween Release Date
For those hoping that they’d be able to play the new Halloween game this year, fans might have to wait a little longer than expected. In fact, the new game has been announced to be a year away with its release coming next September in 2026. It’s definitely disappointing to see that the game’s release is so far away, but hopefully this gameplay trailer will be enough to hold fans over for the time being. Additionally, it’ll be exciting to see more glimpses at the title in the following months, so stay tuned to Brain Mutant for more news on that front as we have it.
The game’s release date has been confirmed with the following clever throwback to the original film’s iconic tagline:
Asymmetrical horror comes home to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on September 8, 2026.
Halloween Franchise’s Future Beyond The Game
In addition to the new Halloween game, there are other projects in the works for the Halloween film franchise. Details have been scarce at this time, but it was most recently confirmed that a Halloween television series was in the works. The series is expected to be unrelated to the recent Blumhouse trilogy that consists of Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022). We also know that Miramax will be the studio behind the series after winning the television rights in a bidding war – which could indicate ties to new feature films. Of course, only time will tell what happens, especially with the unpredictable nature this franchise has proven to have. At least with this new Halloween gameplay trailer we know there will be a new Halloween game to keep fans occupied by this time next year. And if you’re interested in new slasher movies – a new Sleepaway Camp movie is on the way.
