Horror icon Michael Myers was largely established by the performance offered by Nick Castle in the original Halloween – a performance he’ll be reprising once again several decades later for a new Halloween game. This is exciting news for fans of the long-running slasher film franchise. After all, while Halloween has dominated the big screen since 1978, video games have been a much rarer occurrence. Likewise, Nick Castle being involved as Michael Myers is equally rare, something that hasn’t happened since the original film until David Gordon Green’s trilogy gave him a handful of cameos. Now Nick Castle is actively performing as Michael Myers – and in his late 70’s, no less.
It’s impressive to see Castle once again take on the role that became one of the most memorable villains in history. Of course, other actors have left their respective marks on the character over the years. It’s Castle, however, that made Michael Myers felt like the perfect cross between an ordinary man and a supernatural threat. The developer behind the game, Illfonic, clearly want to emulate his unique style of movement to embody the character’s digital counterpart. Fortunately, Castle appears to be taking the part very seriously as shared in an interview on the official Halloween Game website where Nick Castle talks Halloween game details like being involved with the project and who has helped him bring the character to life once again.
Nick Castle Talks Halloween Game
Funnily enough, Castle opens up early on about the game getting him to watch the original movie again. He explained that it was necessary to see what he did that made the character so iconic. And one can imagine a good idea given the complex continuities and number of actors involved since. As he himself stated:
“Well, it did make me go watch the movie again to see just what the hell I did that contributes to the success of the character.”
Castle further stressed how much effort went into the game’s attention to detail and his own performance:
“The folks creating the game wanted the character to be as authentic as possible and I did my best to capture the original movements. It was fun to do and I had a great time with the team.”
Of course, at 78-years-old, Castle didn’t perform all of the character’s motions for the new game. A stuntman named TJ Storm filled in for Castle. As for how they got along, it seems quite well, and Castle explains that he helped Storm keep his performance consistent with his own:
A “real sweetheart,” Castle describes Storm. “Very professional and takes his job seriously.”
Nick Castle also opened up about the unprecedented impact of the original movie, the character of Michael Myers, and how great it is that director John Carpenter is getting his due:
“[There’s] a gigantic fan base that I get to meet in cities all around the country (and parts of the world) going to horror and fan conventions. It’s a big part of some people’s lives. It’s been a big influence in the genre. Nice to see John get the honors he deserves now that he is ancient.”
