Ghoulies Reboot Conjured by Original Creators
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The original creators of Ghoulies, Jefery Levy and Luca Bercovici, are developing a Ghoulies reboot to revive the cult classic horror franchise. Below is an ongoing timeline tracing the project’s history, production developments, and active updates.
October 18, 2026: Brain Mutant Uncovers Lawsuit Settlement; Jefery Levy Confirms New Ghoulies Reboot Plans for 2027
Brain Mutant uncovered public federal court filings confirming a settlement for an unreported copyright lawsuit (Theo Lemasters v. Jeffery Levy, No. 2:25-cv-11481) beginning November 25, 2025. Following a formal settlement conference before Magistrate Judge Margo A. Rocconi and a subsequent Notice of Settlement, District Judge Fernando M. Olguin officially issued the Order Dismissing Action on October 6, 2026.
In an exclusive statement to Brain Mutant, franchise co-creator Jefery Levy confirmed that the legal dispute was the primary obstacle stalling financing for the reboot:
“We have an incredible reboot script. Cannot get financing until the legal issue is settled. Once the legal issue is settled, we will begin production on Ghoulies 2027.”
With the legal record cleared, original creators Luca Bercovici and Jefery Levy are actively positioning the Ghoulies reboot to secure financing for a targeted 2027 production or release.
February 9, 2024: Press Release Confirms Reacquisition of Rights and Initial Ghoulies Reboot Plans

The article added that Levy and Bercovici would be pairing with writer Theo Lemasters to bring their ambitious plans to life. In addition to a new film trilogy starting with their Ghoulies reboot, a Ghoulies book series was also announced, alongside “an exclusive line of figures, apparel, and collectibles.”
May 12, 2020: Ghoulies Creators Petition to Reacquire Franchise Rights
Ghoulies film franchise superfan and Ghoulies Companion author Graham Le Neve Painter launched a Change.org petition endorsed by Jefery Levy and Luca Bercovici to rally Sony Pictures for the rights to reboot the franchise. The petition featured several quotes from Bercovici regarding the importance of the franchise, the impact Ghoulies made on several generations of fans over the decades, and how it’s time to finally revive the brand.
The petition was ultimately closed with 559 supporters. At the time, fans went wild on social media, tagging Sony and sharing the petition in an effort to see the rights returned to Levy and Bercovici.
