Blumhouse Pulls Strings on Puppet Master Reboot Deal
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Blumhouse has secured an option to produce a Puppet Master reboot including film and television rights to the iconic horror movie franchise, a deal recently corroborated by Charles Band. Below is an ongoing timeline tracing the deal’s history, production developments, and active updates.
August 3, 2026: Memoir Details Surface Corroborating Blumhouse Partnership
Charles Band’s book Horror Puppet: The Further Adventures of a Cinema Survivor was published in 2026 and revealed inside details regarding Full Moon’s deal with Blumhouse. Brain Mutant shared an excerpt from the book featuring these details on Facebook in a viral social media post.
Here’s the excerpt discussing their new deal for a Puppet Master reboot:
“We finally closed a deal with Blumhouse, the biggest name in what’s left of the horror world. It was a lucrative option deal for them to make a big reboot of Puppet Master. A movie, yes, and possibly a series as well. Best of all, I get to hold onto all my Puppet Master stuff the movies and the merch. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
This deal appears to work similarly to the deals made for Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys and Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. Full Moon maintains full ownership of the property while Blumhouse can explore their own takes on the IP. However, this is the first time that a Puppet Master television series has been openly discussed. The franchise has a vast mythology that spans films, spin-offs, and even Puppet Master comics, so there’s certainly plenty of potential.
Previous deals explored projects that took place outside Full Moon’s mainline continuity for the film franchise. As such, the Blumhouse film or TV series would likely be a stand-alone endeavor. Though Full Moon will still be able to produce their own Puppet Master movies concurrently. A more popular example would be the way Toho produces new Godzilla movies alongside Legendary’s American Godzilla movies.
January 21, 2026: Public Copyright Filings Reveal Puppet Master Reboot Deal
A copyright filing surfaced on publicrecords.copyright.gov revealing a deal between Blumhouse Productions, LLC. and Full Moon Empire, INC. regarding a short form option. The “List of Works” for the option includes Puppet Master (1989), Puppet Master II (1991), Puppet Master III: Toulon’s Revenge (1991), Puppet Master 4 (1993), Puppet Master 5 (1994), Curse of the Puppet Master (1998), Retro Puppet Master (1999), Puppet Master: The Legacy (2003), Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys (2004), Puppet Master: Axis of Evil (2010), Puppet Master X: Axis Rising (2012), Puppet Master: Axis Termination (2017), Blade: The Iron Cross (2020), and Puppet Master: Doktor Death (2022).
Further entries in the list include Puppet Master Uncut (2025), an uncut version of the original movie, Secrets of the Puppet Master (2020) which is a featurette hosted by David Allen regarding the franchise’s special effects, and Puppet Master: No Strings Attached (1989) which was a more in-depth behind-the-scenes featurette.
Interestingly, this list comprises all of Full Moon’s Puppet Master movies in addition to Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys which was produced under a similar option deal for Syfy (at the time known as The Sci-Fi Channel) in 2004. The list does not include Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich which was produced under an option deal with Cinestate in 2018. With that said, it looks like everything outside of The Littlest Reich is available as source material for anything Blumhouse wants to do with the property.
While the option deal was officially submitted to public record on January 21, 2026, the underlying paperwork shows execution dates for Blumhouse and Full Moon extending back between August 18, 2025 and January 13, 2026.
