LaserDisc Finds Part 2!

I went to the same thrift store today that I mentioned in my first LaserDisc Finds. And just like then, I came back home with five LaserDiscs – this time four horror movies and one TV show. And I just couldn’t be happier with my findings – I’m really striking gold with this place. So, let’s take a look at what I found today.

1. Halloween 3

I feel like this probably has a high demand among horror fans, or at least fans of Halloween 3. And why wouldn’t it? Aside from the fact it’s an awesome movie, the artwork is some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. What with the sunset, the reds and oranges, the silhouettes of the kids trick-or-treating. Also, who could forget the gorgeous metallic font? It’s so remarkably 80s and perhaps the only artwork from the franchise to rival the original 1978 Halloween’s poster. The fact it’s on a LaserDisc case only makes it that much better.

2. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

I love the artwork for this more than the movie. I think many of you would agree. It uses a beautiful splash of reds and blues to create something that almost feels reminiscent of the Italian giallo genre – something the earlier Friday the 13th films were heavily influenced by. And yet, it also creates something that could only exist in a time period like 1989. A very ambitious poster for what should’ve been a more ambitious film.

3. Tales from the Darkside: The Movie

I’m probably repeating myself, but my god, what beautiful artwork. This is the kind of imagery I’d expect to see in some terrifying nightmare, perhaps the beginnings of some parallel universe – a darkside to our own reality. I was a huge fan of the show and the movie was no exception in terms of appeal. I’m glad to have found this – there’s something about it that I didn’t know I wanted until I bought it.

4. Return of the Living Dead 2

I always see the cover for this film get compared to Fright Night from 1985, and you know what? I totally agree with the similarities. Unfortunately neither film contains a gaseous monster cloud so I guess they have that in common too. Nevertheless it’s a great poster and I only wish it took up the entire space of the LaserDisc cover.

5. Tales from the Crypt

Now, I already own all seven seasons of this show on DVD, but how could I resist not owning the first three episodes on LaserDisc? I had to have it, even if the artwork wasn’t that pretty, it’s just too great of a novelty to pass up. Tales from the Crypt was one of the biggest franchises out there during its time, and all the merchandise spawned from it is slowly fading into obscurity. It’s almost like my duty to save it from the dark corners of the universe. And so here I am.

As you can probably tell, I can’t get enough of this stuff. And so finding all of these was just the thing I needed to make my life a little happier. Hopefully I can go buy some more in the coming weeks, and I’ll be sure to write up some articles for every last purchase.

I own a website called "Brain Mutant". What more needs to be said?
