According to Deadline, The CW is adapting The Lost Boys, a classic 1987 vampire film, as a new series for TV. Written by Veronica Mars and iZombie creator Rob Thomas, the show is being planned for a run of about seven seasons in an anthology-styled format.
This is what’s so interesting about it – the show will actually span seventy years, with each season focusing on a specific decade. The first season will reportedly take place in 1967: the Summer of Love. And the connecting element? The vampires will remain the same! We’ll get to see the same vampires transition agelessly throughout time unlike the other settings and characters which will be different each season. Awesome!
The series is going to be produced by Thomas through Spondoolie Productions, alongside his frequent collaborators Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge. Gulfstream principals Mike Karz and Bill Bindley will also be producing.
Personally, I can’t wait to see the show come to fruition. Vampires have always been a favorite movie monster of mine and the idea of watching them live across time has always been appealing. And no doubt The Lost Boys will be the perfect canvas to display such a story. Just imagine the first season set in 1967 with a handful of biker vampires inspired by movies like Easy Rider. It’s going to be great.
